Kitchens are so often the hub of activity and no where is that more evident than in the large kitchen hidden way in the back of the soon to open Local Sprouts on Congress Street. Working out of that kitchen will be Local Sprouts cooks, a baker for Domb Diggity Baking and the Arts Program.
The Arts Program supports those with intellectual disabilities. Funded by the State of Maine, 8 or 9 individuals in the program will bake and then donate the goods to non-profits who can use them. Lindsay deCsipkes, program director, for the group said recently: “It’s exciting to be sharing a kitchen with Local Sprouts.”
The large kitchen which is fully equipped once served the students of USM when the buildling was a dormitory. Local Sprouts, 649 Congress Street, may open on June 4th.
