Once again, Monument Square will serve as the kick-off spot for the annual WinteRush Event.  The Downtown Showdown, a ski and snowboard competition takes place in Monument Square on Friday, February 11 – between 5 – 7 pm.  Earlier the same day, 9 am, there will be  the Polar Bear 5K sponsored by Tri-Maine at the East End Community School on the Hill.  Then, at noon, brave souls are invited to participate in the Maine Polar Plunge at the East End Beach for the benefit of Camp Sunshine.  (www.freezeinforareason.com)

“WinterRush is the answer to the question, how can I survive another snowstorm?  It’s a chance to be outdoors and enjoy the winter with the entire family,” stated Mayor Mavodones.  “From igloo forts to snowball fights, there is pretty much something for everyone.”

At 11 am the Deering Oaks Park events will open to the public.  For more information about WinterRush and an event schedule, go to www.portlandwinterush.com.
