Last night a packed house at Sebago Brewing Company in the Old Port celebrated over 10 good years at its Middle Street location and toasted the future at its new spot on the East End – on the first floor of the new Hampton Inn on Fore Street. Opening day is Friday, May 27th at 11 am.
Brad Monarch, one of the three business partners, said: “We are excited about being in our new location here. We hope to keep our loyal customers and get some new ones from the East End area. We’ve created about a dozen new jobs to staff our newest and largest restaurant. It seats 236 people including the outside patio.” The location at the new Hampton Inn is all on one level – including the kitchen – which makes it easier on the wait staff which was a factor in selecting this location. Monarch’s two other business partners are Tim Haines and Kai Adams who were visible as well at the party.
Party goers of all ages attended the “End of an Era” party. Many of them were sampling beers from a wide selection in recognition of the start of American Craft Brew Week. One sampler was Scott Frazier, drinking a glass of the popular Zoe. Frazier described it as light and cloudy with a citrus flavor. He called it “similing zoe.” Byron Crowder was drinking a German, unfiltered light beer with a lemon flavor: Hefeweizen. Crowder said he could drink a lot of these on a hot summer day. With him was Kellie Smith, drinking vodka. Taking in all of the views at the bar was the 4 month old son of Sally and Peter; Jasper. His taste still runs to mom’s home brew!
Elise Loschiavo, marketing manager for Sebago Brewing Co. answered one of the more pressing questions posed by mhn.com during the evening: What about the Jordan’s sign community activist Markos Miller saved from the demolition of the former meat packing facility? “It will be hung in a place of honor,” she said, grinning. That is on a large wall opposite the bar. For many years, the meat packing facility was a major business on the Hill – until Tyson’s foods bought it and then closed it shortly thereafter.
