“This place is everything that the old place was not and never could be,” said Katie Capron co-owner of Katie Made Bakery of her new location at 181 Congress Street on Saturday morning. Katie and her sister and business partner Jennifer were holding an open house for the neighborhood to get a look at the sisters’ new Bakery.
Katie who founded the popular Bakery 13 years ago at the tiny 147 Cumberland Avenue location had been looking for a larger storefront since her sister Jen became her business partner four years ago. With the addition of soups and delicious sandwiches to the menu, the two quickly out grew the Cumberland Avenue corner. When the former tatoo shop at 181 Congress Street became available, they jumped at the opportunity to expand in this location.
The state inspector arrived this past Friday afternoon and the Bakery passed with no fuss. “We had to start baking up a storm,” said the affable Katie laughing. “We baked until 10 pm last night and then got here at 8 am for our open house.”
They baked cranberry walnut scones, apple coffee cake, strawberry cheese danish, muffins, a carrot cake and much more for sale to the public. In this larger space, there is room to display their goodies as there wasn’t previously. Their popular breakfast menu is on display as well as a list of scrumptous “sandwich specials” for sale. In the meantime, their successful wholesale business catering to area restaurants and coffee shops continues at top speed.
Customers can sit most comfortably in spacious window seats with cushions or not. There are several tables for those who want them. It’s clear that the new Katie Made Bakery location has been thoughtfully planned and it’s a real pleasure to shop there.
Katie Made Bakery is open Tuesday – Sunday. Hours remain indefinite. For more information on this wonderful addition to the Hill, please call 771-0994.
